We’re not afraid to say it. As conservatives, we disown Rush Limbaugh.

Speaking for myself, yes, I know the video above is from Air America.  I’m not concerned about the idiotic commentary from Air America. I am concerned about the commentary from Rush.  After years of listening to him faithfully, and believing him, I’ve had it.

I can’t, I won’t, listen to Rush any more.

Here I am, well in to the last third of my life, and I know that I have been wrong to follow Rush Limbaugh.  I don’t side with Keith Olbermann, who calls Rush an “entertainer.”  On the other hand, Rush is in business to grow his ratings.  Frankly, I’ve found myself asking, “What have I been doing all these years, listening to Rush?” as I watch him talking into a gilded microphone.

I can’t take him seriously any more. My conscience tells me he’s wrong for Conservatives.

So I chart a new course here.

We believe that we Conservatives have lost our souls. We believe that Movement Conservatives have hijacked the Conservative movement, that capitalism is not defined by greed, and that Conservatives want to work for a positive vision of America.

We are not interested in shrinking government “down to the size where we can drown it in the bathtub,” as Grover Norquist infamously suggested. Rather, we assert the need for the right amount of government. We as conservatives must accept government as a necessary evil, and want to use it for the benefit of all.

Finally, as we are fearful of losing our immortal souls. We at The Conservative News Digest embrace our Christian roots, the Christ who calls us in Matthew 25:31-46, The Parable of the Last Judgment, to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, care for the sick, etc. etc.

We have had it with George W. Bush and Dick Cheney who turned the United States government into a national patronage system to fatten their own wallets. We do not follow their philosophy.
